The Hippo took my Goals

Well, this is just my way of saying that I didn't achieve all of my goals from September, actually I didn't really do well, but that's okay!  I've been dealing with some stuff.  It's like the elephant in the room, but it's a hippo because I really love hippos.  They are so cute!

September Goals
* Write at least 20,000 words on my current WIP (Nameless)
Hmmm... nope.  I am sitting at 6,190 words.  Not really close to 20,000.

* Finish the country map of Menrio (for my novel Nameless)
Did I mention that I'm not really good with the program and I am not geographically smart?

* Contact Lulu.com about the possibility of having "Down in the Creek" or "To Love without Hope" professionally edited
I actually did this one and decided that I don't have that kind of money right now.  I am working an unpaid internship and don't have an income, just what is in savings.  It's not a priority at this time.

NEW GOALS
* Write to 10,000 words on my WIP (Nameless)

* Work on my Halloween costume!  (I will most likely make lots of reference of Halloween this month since it is my favorite holiday!  I love decorating, dressing up and handing out candy.)

I am hoping to make a Regency style gown for my costume, to be Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice.  I found this pattern online and I hope that it isn't too difficult.  It doesn't have to be perfect, but I hope that I can make it look pretty nice. :)

I am only going to give myself two goals for this month because of school work, time commitments with my internship, and other things.  I really would like to spend more time with my friend that is dying.  He's a great guy and I am trying to make some special cookies for him. :)  God is giving me this time to spend with him before he goes home and I don't want to waste it.

I also need to decide if I should do NaNoWriMo this November.  I've done it the past three years and I've done one month of Camp NaNoWriMo.  It might be a more emotional month for me, but I might try it.

I hope that my October goals don't turn out like September or I might look like my poor hippo, Chubby.  I lost him and my mom had hippo-napped him and hung him up in the bathroom.  Poor guy.

How do you keep up with your goals?  Do you reward yourself for achieving your goals?

Have a great weekend!

  1. I generally don't achieve my goals, in all honesty.

I will set them and then congratulate myself if I get even half of the goal accomplished. :)

  2. 20,000 words is a lot!! Especially for a college kid! (I'm one too! I'm lucky to crank out 1000 words for my novel between essays and readings!

I don't set goals like these...lol. Not for my writing. I realized a lot time ago I couldn't force myself to write when my characters didn't want to speak anyways.

    You're right--the hippo is cute!! :D

  3. I flopped on my goals this month too. Sigh. But I am rededicating myself. What's hard for me is I can't decided where I want to put my focus. Because I WANT to work on my WIP. But I SHOULD work on the book I am getting ready to query. So I end up doing nothing instead.

Good luck with October. And I love your costume idea!

  4. I didn't get as much done in September as I hoped either. I've gotten a good start to October even though I lose a week with my mom visiting next week. I'm going to try NaNoWriMo this year again. I completed it successfully for a number of years before I had my son, but now having a kid makes it more difficult. I want to try, though!

  5. That hippo is super cute!

Ah, don't be too hard on yourself. 20K is a lot. Do smaller, doable goals--like saying you'll write everyday even if it's only a few hundred words. Before you know it, you'll be writing more than a few hundred. It's just a matter of perspective.

Btw, I love Halloween too! I hope you get to finish your costume. That would be lovely--and please, pictures!! I still don't know what I'm going to be for Halloween. My two kids love dressing up and I try to dress up too for fun. Last year I was a hag. I scared my hubby LOL!!
