Sharpie Mugs

Not a writing post - but another creative outlet. :)

My best friend's birthday is tomorrow, so I spent some time coming up with a perfect birthday gift for her.  I wanted something original for her and totally awesome, because she is totally awesome.  I came across an idea on Pinterest.

Ceramic mug - $1 at DollarTree
A great deal!  I bought two mugs at DollarTree for a dollar each and I have a collection of twenty sharpies.  I decorated the sharpies with a quote from "A Very Potter Sequel" by Starkid and a quote that I found while searching.

Wash the mugs with soap and water, making sure that they are dry before writing/designing the mugs with whatever you'd like.

Once it is "just right", you bake the mugs, directly in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes and wait until they cool before removing them from the oven.

Here are the completed projects!!

Hilarious!

A Very Potter Sequel quote
UPDATE:  You will need to spray the cups with a gloss coat or the marker will rub off once it cools.  I learned this the hard way.  The mustache mug is no more. :(  Note:  The oil-based paint sharpies work best for making your design last longer.

Have fun!  And be creative. :)

Also, there's still time to enter my 200 follower giveaway on the post below!!  You have until Friday to enter for a chance to win a $10 Amazon gift card or a 3 chapter critique from me. :)

  3. That's a great idea! I gave a mug too to my Mom on her bday, and guess that I wrote on it all her famous dialogues (Typical motherly). That was hillarious and she loved it too. You surely go for this idea it is amazing :)

  4. Ah, heck, do you have to wait until they cool off? It's a nice idea even for just goofing off!

  5. That's great! I tried these, but the marker wore off after the first time someone touched it. Now that I read your directions, I realize I didn't let them cool in the oven...maybe I need to try again. :)
