Favorite character from Tolkien

In honor of the 75th anniversary of the publication of "The Hobbit", this week is known as Tolkien Week!  It celebrates the author, J.R.R. Tolkien and his wonderful literary compositions dealing with Middle Earth; The Silmarillion, The Hobbit, The Lord the Rings (Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, The Return of the King), Unfinished Tales, and The History of Middle Earth.

Today I will be sharing my favorite character who Tolkien created!!

- Aragorn, son of Arathorn

He is my favorite Tolkien character!  He has such a rich history, being born to a broken line, refusing to be king and being raised by elves.  His lineage was hidden from him and Aragorn was actually called "Estel" when he lived in Rivendell, until he was twenty and Elrond told him the truth.  He's a noble character and possessed an elven wisdom.  He is also a skilled healer.  Although Aragorn doubted his own strength to become king, he knew it was his destiny to become King.

I love the rich background Tolkien wrote for Aragorn and the trials of his life.  He fought in many battles, and saw so many things.  He fell in love with Arwen and eventually married her.  Their love story is breathtaking and if you've never read it, you should read it in the Appendices of "The Return of the King".  (There's so much information back there!)

I love how Aragorn presents himself as Strider to the hobbits and the mystery surrounding him.  Such a wonderful character who changes so much throughout the story!  Arwen is a lucky elf. :)

Also...

Viggo Mortensen - yum! :)

  1. Ah, Aragorn. One of my favorites as well.

I have to say my favorite is probably Legolas (this may have a lot to do with me having seen the movies before reading the books). I also like Sam, and I really liked Faramir too. I also found the characters in "The Children of Hurin" to be intriguing, if very dark.

I'm so excited for the new trailer! What do you think about "The Hobbit" being a trilogy?

    1. Faramir is a great character too, growing up in the shadow of his older brother and becoming a great man, also getting Eowyn. :) Legolas, I really enjoy his character too! Orlando Bloom is nice. :)

I'm not sure I'm happy with "The Hobbit" being a trilogy, but he is going to be intergrating a lot of the stuff from the Appendices into the movies, so we will get more background on a lot of the characters. Since it is Peter Jackson, I'm sure they will be amazing. I can't wait for the new trailer!

  2. My favorite is Eowyn! Aragorn is amazing, but a little distant for me; besides Eowyn I like the hobbits best because I would just love to visit them for a few months and eat their cooking, drink their tea and so on. :)

  3. Right there with you on Aaragorn. Fascinating character and history! I love the inherent struggle he faces and the wisdom he possesses, a result of his upbringing.

  4. I'm so excited for The Hobbit trailer!!! Thank goodness Peter Jackson took over doing that movie. No one else can make that novel be the best movie it can be except Jackson.

It's difficult to choose a favorite! I really love all the characters, but I think my favorites are Samwise (such loyalty and kindness!) and Eowyn (she's the only one who could kill the Witch-King!).
