NaNoWriMo 2012

 So, I'm in.

Even though I'm quite a bit busy with work, family, and my upcoming vacation at the end of November, I decided to do NaNoWriMo this year.  I didn't last year because Chris died on November 7th.  Since I knew he was sick, I decided against doing NaNo.  November was very difficult for me.  The year before, I didn't do it because I did Camp NaNo in July and I had finished another book in May.

But I decided to try this year.  NaNoWriMo was what taught me to sit down and take the time to write.  Leave the editing for later.

I will be "cheating" a little bit by starting before November 1st.  I'm going on a cruise with my family, leaving for Miami on November 22nd at 6 am.  I don't get back until December 1st.  I won't be bringing my computer or really be able to write during that time.  It's my goal to write a 50,000 word novel by November 21st.  Yikes.

No pressure?

My NaNo Novel
Defiance
YA Urban Fantasy

Sixteen-year-old Kaela was born with wings; wings she has never flown with. It's forbidden. Kaela was born in captivity, surrounded by white walls and given a number instead of a name. The only part of her past she knows is bound to her. She befriends another girl in the center and when Amie is killed, Kaela can take no more. With the help of the mysterious boy, Trent, Kaela escapes and begins to discover the lies of the center have kept her from the truth of her past and will change the course of her future.

That's just a rough idea.  Really, I'm a pant-ser.  I'm not sure where this is going, but I'm willing to try.

Here's my page if you want to add me as a writing buddy:  kristam

Are you doing NaNoWriMo 2012?  Are you a pant-ser or a plotter?

  1. I am doing NaNo despite my very packed schedule as well. I can't wait to get started and am hoping I can make it. I feel like I'll prove something to myself if I do :)

Love your story idea. It sounds very interesting. Consider yourself as a buddy of one more person ready to cheer you on!

    1. You will feel proud when you finish. It's a great accomplishment, especially if you are busy and finding the time to write a novel in a month. :)

Thanks! I added you as a buddy too. We'll cheer each other on. :)

  4. Your novel sounds very interesting! I am participating this year too, and I'm trying to be diligent about plotting because last year I tried winging it, and didn't make it very far.
I'm kind of in the same boat as you--going on family vacation for the last 10 days of Nov, so we'll see where I am before that!
    Good luck to you!

    1. Thanks Rachel! :) I think it's great you plot - I just wing it, though I do get stuck and there are a lot of missing plot holes when I do it that way.

Thanks funny we are both going on vacation! :) We can both do it! If you want, I'd love to add you as a buddy! Just let me know your username on the website.

      Good luck to you too!

  5. Your novel sounds great! Good luck. I'm a pantser too. I try to do some plotting, but my muse will venture far from the outline if I do one. I do have some characters made up for my NaNo story.

    1. Thanks Christine! :) I've tried to plot, but my muse likes to take vacations from it! Good job having characters, I only have the two MCs right now.

      Good luck!

  6. Your novel idea sounds great, and I love the cover! I'm doing an augmented Nannowrimo too, I'm starting on November 5th after I get back from Berlin.

Your cruise sounds amazing by the way!

    1. Thank you! :) I really like it too! It's kinda funny to do an augmented NaNo, but it does feel a little like cheating to start early. :)

Thanks - I am super excited! I haven't been on vacation in probably five years!
