Welcome to the A-Z Blogging Challenge on my blog! Hi, my name is Krista. (readers echo) I'm a writer of young adult fantasy and urban fantasy. I also love jelly beans - seriously, I have 7 bags of the Easter speckled ones hidden in a container in my bedroom, and I spend too much time failing at dating fictional characters.
My theme for the A-Z Blogging Challenge is: Awesome Nerd-ness
Did I not mention above that I'm a complete nerd? Well, I am. :) I even have it as a board on Pinterest; yes, that nerdy. Awesome Nerd-ness.
Without further mindless (yet cool) chatter I will talk about today's letter!
Aragorn, son of Arathorn, is one of the main protagonists from J.R.R. Tolkien's epic "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. He is a ranger from the north who meets the hobbits in Bree and joins them on their quest to destroy the One Ring. I love the rich background Tolkien wrote for Aragorn and the trials of
his life. He fought in many battles, and saw so many things. He fell
in love with Arwen and eventually married her. Their love story is
breathtaking and if you've never read it, you should read it in the
Appendices of "The Return of the King". (There's so much information
back there!)
He is my favorite Tolkien character! He has such a rich history, being
born to a broken line, refusing to be king and being raised by elves.
His lineage was hidden from him and Aragorn was actually called "Estel"
when he lived in Rivendell, until he was twenty and Elrond told him the
truth. He's a noble character and possessed an elven wisdom. He is
also a skilled healer. Although Aragorn doubted his own strength to
become king, he knew it was his destiny to become King. Aragorn slowly becomes the King that Gondor needs.
Who is your favorite character from "The Lord of the Rings"?
Aragorn rules!
ReplyDeleteHe totally and literally does! :)
DeleteThis is the second post I've seen today devoted to Aragorn. I love it!!
ReplyDeleteThat's because he is that awesome! :)
DeleteLove him too! And being a Nerd is the best thing to be, great theme :)
ReplyDeleteBeing a nerd is definitely the best thing to be - I'm excited to share all of my nerdy posts!
DeleteLove him! Sigh! I always loved Tom Bombadil and Goldberry - cameo parts but something really special
ReplyDeleteLx
Odd, I never liked Tom Bombadil's character, but my childhood friend Molly loves his characters. It's nice to meet someone else who likes him. :)
DeleteAragorn is my favourite character from the trilogy, definitely. I love that picture, it's so right!
ReplyDeleteIt really is! Great choice Laura!
DeleteHe's a great character. Also love Gandalf. Good luck this month!
ReplyDeleteOoo - I love Gandalf too! "Fool of a Took - throw yourself in next time and rid us of your stupidity!" Thanks Nick!
DeleteFavorite character? Strider, no quesstion. Great post. A toast to nerdiness!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! :) I love they call him Strider too and Elessar! :) *clinks cup*
DeleteI must say, I have a soft spot for Samwise Gamgee. He's the epitome of loyal friendship. He's humble, and completely at the service of others, especially Frodo. And his loyalty to Frodo is not only expressed in his willingness to support his friend no matter what; he's also willing to tell him when he's wrong.
ReplyDeleteAll the best with A-to-Z this year, Krista!
Hi Colin! :) I like Sam too... you might have to check out my letter G... He really is the best, best friend. :)
DeleteThanks Colin! Good luck to you too!
I LOVE Aragon! He's my second favorite, though. He's beaten out by Gimli but juuuust a hair :)
ReplyDeleteReally??? Gimli. Wow, I've never met someone with Gimli as a favorite. Cool!
DeleteI'm a total nerd, too. But I've always loved Faramir just a touch more than Aragorn--the latter being a little too perfect for my taste. I love Faramir's vulnerability, and the fact that he makes the right decisions even when they are very difficult.
ReplyDeleteOh, and of course Master Peregrine Took. Can't forget Pippin!
Faramir does have that vulnerability which leaves me weak at the knees. He does make the hard decisions. Being a nerd is awesome! :)
DeleteLOVE Pippin!
Good topic! Aragorn is definitely one of my favourites. I also love Sam, and am intrigued by Smeagol.
ReplyDeleteAllison (Geek Banter)
You'll definitely like my letter G then. :) I'm intrigued by Smeagol too. His character just makes you wonder about the circumstances which made him the way he is. Thanks Allison!
DeleteLove your theme! Aragon is my favorite too. I'm a little annoyed by the Hobbits. Though I suppose I shouldn't say that out loud!
ReplyDeleteThanks Christine! The hobbits can be a bit annoying; it's safe to say it. :)
DeleteAragorn! Yay! I love him too.
ReplyDeleteBut my favorite characters from LOTR? Merry and Pippin. They're so much fun and they grow so much over the course of the story without really losing the heart of what makes them good characters.
Merry and Pippin are pretty good characters too! They really do grow up over the course of the books and become pretty great. :)
DeleteDo I have to leave immediately upon admitting that I haven't read it (or seen it)...yes? Ok, bye for now...
ReplyDeleteThat's okay! It's not everyone's taste. Don't fear! I'm sure there will be stuff you've seen and others haven't. Just know Aragorn is the best and you're set. :)
DeleteOh, Aragorn, how I love thee. I'm a fan of Samwise Gamgee. He is absolutley without reservation loyal and dedicated to Frodo. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body. He stuck it through thick and thin to help Frodo accomplish his goal to destroy the ring. Sam is the best! I would love him to be my friend too.
ReplyDeleteI love him too. :) Sam is such a loyal character and possibly one of my other letters.... :) I would love Sam as a best friend!
DeleteHave to admit it, Aragorn is easy on the eyes. ;) But my favorite character would be Samwise. All the best on your busy month!!
ReplyDeleteAragorn is very easy on the eyes... :) Sam is very popular today - good choice! Thanks - hopefully this month goes well!
DeleteHi Krista, Oh this makes me want to put the movie in! Having fun with the A to Z!
ReplyDeleteThe Write Soil
It makes me wanna put it in too! Such an incredible movie!
DeleteI just watched The Hobbit the other day and it made me want to watch the rest of the movies. I love all of the characters, and even have a LOTR chess set. Super nerd here :)
ReplyDeleteOoh, I am a big Aragorn fan! He's possibly also my favorite ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment on my cover reveal post. I'd be happy to give you a free copy of the book (instead of you having to buy it!) if you're interested in posting a review during the blog tour in June ... But I'll email you about that :-)
Love your theme!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read or seen Lord of the Rings, but that's my goal for this summer.
