About Me

My name is Krista McLaughlin and I'm twenty-eight years old.  I'm from Iowa, yes that place with all the corn and if you build it, someone will come. I have a bachelor's degree in Child, Adult, and Family Services, with an English minor.  I work as an infant teacher with twelve adorable and equally lovable babies. I also work part time in customer service. I've been writing since I was eleven years old. My novella, BREATHLESS was self-published on April 1, 2014.

I love my family very much. I am the second oldest of five children and probably the one with my head constantly in the clouds or stuck in a book. Growing up in a big family has definitely created some great family moments in my writing.

I'm a geek. My dad used to watch Star Wars with me as a kid and I also grew up watching Star Trek. I admit I'm a serious Trekkie and someday I'd like to own a beagle named Porthos. I love The Lord of the Rings and Indiana Jones.  I'm also a real life Hobbit and recently became a Whovian. Maybe it makes me a little dorky, but I like being a nerd! I'm comfortable with that aspect of myself, which is something I've worked hard on in the past year.

When it comes to writing, I have a deep love of contemporary and romance. I fell in love with the tale of Aragorn and Arwen when I was twelve and Tolkien made me love fantasy in way I haven't loved any book since. He's my favorite author. (My second favorite author is Tamora Pierce.) I've written several genres, but I mostly enjoy writing young adult contemporary. I love fairy-tale retellings and have written two. My favorite characters to create usually have a deep love of nerdy things and have a sensitive side. I love creating characters with deep stories and broken romances. Whether in fantasy, contemporary, or in other genres, I love a great love story.

Anything more, feel free to ask! :)
